Internship Opporunities in Conservation and Forestry - Guyana

Pro-Natura is an environmental NGO working in tropical countries with
local communities on natural resource management and capacity building.
We are seeking 3 people interested in going abroad for one year to work
in the Guyanese Rainforest, with an Amerindian Community. These
positions are in a new training and development centre and would have a
huge impact in helping with capacity building, sustainable livelihoods
and empowering local people to participate with the Government in
planning for development, wildlife management and the utilization of the
forests.



*1. Position: Project Support Person and Trainer*
This person will be a pivotal person in providing support to the
Programme Coordinator and the Administrator who handles all the finances
and programme planning for 7 projects. He/She will also be providing
capacity building skills in which ever area of expertise he/she holds in
natural resource management to a group of youth and getting involved in
community work. The centre is training 32 youth in several areas of
natural resource management, using very practical projects that also
support the Communities.

*2. Agroforestry Project Manager and Instructor in Agriculture/Agroforestry*
This position is for an instructor in organic agriculture on a basic
level but training in or experience in tropical rural agriculture would
be useful. This person will also oversee community agroforestry
projects. The programme would include the involvement of students in
community projects such as providing tree nurseries and vegetable
gardens for each community. It would be helpful if this instructor were
familiar with the ideas of permaculture, appropriate forms of
irrigation, integrated pest management, appropriate technologies.

*3**. Forester*
This position is for a forester to work with local Indigenous
Communities in Guyana both assisting with a young loggers' cooperative
with developing management plans and expanding their business and also
teaching ½ time, practical forestry to a group of 7-8 young people.
Another aspect of this work is to assist communities to develop the
capacity to participate in national planning for their forests.

*Funding and Starting Information*
There is a small stipend, insurance, flights, food and lodgings .
Positions are flexible on starting dates but June/July is preferred.
Partners are welcome.

*Qualifications*
Seeking people with higher degrees (MSc) in natural sciences and some
experience or undergraduates completing a degree in one of these areas
who are able to work relatively independently. Interested candidates
