Project Manager – Ghana
Background
Arborcarb is an international forestry project management company committed to
developing business and investment opportunities at the interface of forestry, carbon credits



and emerging markets for ecosystem services. The company is in the early stages of
establishing a portfolio of projects for investment in reforestation of degraded forest lands
and other forest development opportunities, where the return is generated through globally
tradable carbon credits, the value of the forest for sustainable timber production, the
emerging value of ecosystem services such as biodiversity enhancement and water
regulation, and other local economic activities.
Investments are designed to deliver high quality carbon credits that will be registered with
the new Voluntary Carbon Standard, sustainable timber that will be certified to the Forest
Stewardship Council standard, and significant social and environmental co-benefits that will
be certified to the Climate, Community and Biodiversity standards.
Project Manager
The Project Manager will join the Ghana team and be responsible for establishment,
management and delivery of all Ghana projects. The Project Manager will report to the
Directors of Arborcarb Ghana Ltd.
The main objectives of the role are to:
• work with senior management to finalise development of the current Ghana project,
which is due to commence implementation towards the end of 2008
• manage field activities in order to ensure that project performance matches or
exceeds projected investment returns,
• develop the competence and capacity of the Ghana team to establish and maintain
the project
• provide technical input to development of Project Idea Notes, Project Design
Documents and funding proposals
• coordinate in-country interactions with certification bodies for VCS, CCB and FSC
standards, and with carbon/natural resource stakeholders in the project country
• assist in development of further project opportunities in Ghana and regionally,
including oversight of scoping and feasibility studies
Key qualifications and experience
The following requirements are essential:
• Advanced degree in forestry or related environmental science
• Proven success in managing performance-based, tropical forestry projects, including
those involving multiple revenues and objectives
• Understanding of forestry-based carbon credits
• Experience of managing and developing staff
• Considerable individual drive, initiative and organisational skills
• Fluency in English and proven excellent communication skills
The following requirements are desirable:
• Experience of forestry in Ghana
• Experience in developing PINs, PDDs and new carbon standard methodologies
• Commercial skills and a sound working knowledge of environmental issues related
to renewable resources and of the carbon debate/climate change
• Good team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Competence in French
Location and travel
Western Region, Ghana
The Project Manager will work from the Ghana partner’s facility in Western Region,
Ghana, with periods of work in Accra and occasional regional/international travel.
