CI Sumatra Program Manager


Sumatra Program Manager (Closing Date by March 31st, 2008)
Conservation International has developed the conservation "corridor" approach as a way of implementing conservation strategy. This approach will focus on designing biodiversity-friendly land-uses that maximizes the survival of the species found in a region while minimizing the economic costs and maximizing benefits to local people and the government. CI uses an extensive participatory approach to mobilize stakeholders around the conservation strategy to identify the options that are most desirable to stake holders and decision makers and therefore have the highest chance to success.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead the North Sumatra Corridor (NSC) program through coordinating projects/activities within the NSC corridor and for supervision of all NSC project staff and to work with key stakeholders to disseminate the results.
· Conduct oversight and administration of program activities relating to policy including budgeting, project development, staff management, financial and contracts administration, and ensuring adherence to CI-Indonesia's policies and procedures.
· Set up a mechanism to facilitate and to support effective NSC implementation that consists of several programs/projects as well as to provide their respective work plan, monitoring assistance, and reporting.
· Act as the central communication link among all CI-I staff both within NSC program and outside the program with the partners particularly work closely with both governmental and non-governmental organizations in the region to identify innovative solutions to current and emerging threats to critical habitat and species.
· Assist Terrestrial Program Director in developing and implementing programs of CI-Indonesia in Northern Sumatra Corridor, Siberut Island, and Aceh, particularly in preparation of implementing the NSC strategy.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
· At least a Master Degree on Biology or Ecology or Natural Resources Management or related science with a minimum 5 years experience, particularly of research and/or development projects in the filed.
· Experience in managing support from International and National Donor agencies, foundations and private sectors.
· Has advocacy skills and strong network with partners in Medan especially with Forestry people
· Written and spoken English and the ability to communicate often complex and sensitive issues to a wide audience
· Report writing skills and experience working with other donor agencies
· Proven record of success as part of interdisciplinary project teams
· Computer literate

Terms of offer:
This is a national professional contract term position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The contract is for a period of 1 (one) year, with possibility of renewal, subject to assessment of performance, and availability of resources.
