The WorldFish Center, located on the island of Penang, Malaysia, is a world-class scientific research organization. Our mission is to reduce poverty and hunger by improving fisheries and aquaculture. REGIONAL PORTFOLIO COORDINATOR
Key Responsibilities:
Providing substantial contributions to project concept notes and proposals, in collaboration with other WorldFish staff and national or regional partners;
Conducting background research and literature reviews for specific project concept notes or proposals;
Coordinating project development activities for the regional portfolio - setting up and implement systems to track project development opportunities;
Playing a lead role on management of small projects or components of a larger research projects - coordinating WorldFish involvement for a larger,more complex projects in collaboration with national and regional partners;
Coordinating with project leaders to monitor progress against project milestones and document lessons and outcomes of WorldFish collaborations;
Participating in the implementation of WorldFish projects and studies in providing expert inputs in his or her areas of specialization;
Publishing results of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, policy magazines and popular media;
Conducting consultations with national and local partners in the region to attract specific opportunities for future collaboration;
Preparing progress reports for the portfolio and regional contributions to various Center plans and reports;
Playing a focal point role for communications about the regional portfolio, including summary materials on projects underway, regional development plans and outcomes achieved - coordinating publication and distribution of various media and organizing events for partners to share outcomes on related research;
Participating in exchange of lessons and best practices through workshops, training and publications;
Promoting cross-disciplinary and participatory approaches for analyzing institutional and policy challenges relating to food security and livelihoods; and
Contributing to setting priorities for research and development strategies in the East and Southeast Asia region.
Requirements:
Masters in Biological Science (Aquaculture / Fisheries/Natural Resource Management / Zoology / Ecology) with in-depth understanding of social science issues or Applied Social Science (Applied Economics / Sociology / Geography / Anthropology / Political Science / Development Policy / Rural Development) with in depth understanding of biological sciences issues; PhD in any of the mentioned disciplines will be advantageous.
3 years’ post-graduate professional experience in research and or rural development;
Candidates with masters of arts or science in any of the above listed subjects with more than 8 years’ relevant experience can be considered;
Proven project development and fund acquisition capability;
Excellent project management skill;
Good research and analytical skills in areas relevant to regional priorities in fisheries, natural resources management, aquaculture or social science, as well as governance and institutional arrangements related to natural resources management and development;
Proven analytical ability, strong initiative, good judgment and demonstrated technical competence in required research fields;
High degree of cultural sensitivity and proven record of effective working relationships in developing countries;
Excellent communication skills - spoken English and writing;
Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin would be an added advantage.
