Program PMD Mahakam - Promoting Community Livelihoods through
Sustainable and Integrated Management of the Mahakam Delta




Based on the Project Document (PRODOC), the outputs of PMD Mahakam
project
aimed to:

Develop a framework and capacity development packages intended to assist
the
Bupati's Office to review and synergize resources, program, projects,
and
action plans targeted at the Mahakam Delta. Identify potential overlaps
across sectors and potential conflicts among stakeholders, and establish
resolution mechanisms towards an integrated approach for the development
of
local livelihoods based on sustainable management of mangrove resources.
Develop a specific framework and package of capacity development
intended to
assist the relevant local government provincial and district offices to
identify potential overlaps and potential conflicts on land use, land
tenure
and land rights; establish resolution mechanisms through participatory
means
towards a comprehensive management approach of land use, land tenure and
land rights in Mahakam delta.

Introduce, integrate and enhance shrimp production based on
sylvo-fishery
models into existing program and projects developed by the local fishery
office and other elements of the district government and identify,
disseminate and promote alternative income initiatives.
Provide capacity development package to enhance the effectiveness of
mangrove rehabilitation program developed by local forestry office.

Functions / Key Results Expected

He/She will work to lead the BAPPENAS Work Package as an integral part
of
the project organization for Promoting Local Economic Development and
Community Livelihood through Sustainable and Integrated Environmental
Management of the Mahakam Delta.

His/Her overall conduct in terms of task management is under the
coordination of the Project Executive and day to day technical
supervision
from the Directorate of Environmental Affairs - BAPPENAS.

These intended outputs assume a division into 4(four) activities,
consists
of 1(one) supporting activity and 3(three) main activities as follow:
- Preparation and Administration
- Project Coordination; hosting and facilitating project stakeholders in
coordination workshops annually.
- IBSAP Facilitation, specially related to the protecting mangrove
biodiversity to support sustainable community livelihood; facilitate the
project integration with Kalimantan Bio-region action plan, as well as
disseminate nation-wide IBSAP progress.
- Technical and Policy Guidance; oversee the technical and policy
guidance
within the system of development planning processes and procedures.

Competencies

planning and spatial planning with hands-on experience in local

ICRAF - Landscape Hydrologist

The Position
ICRAF is implementing a project on "Trees in multi-Use Landscapes in Southeast Asia (TUL-SEA): A negotiation support toolbox for Integrated Natural Resource Management" that aims to sharpen the tools for problem appraisal to be used in mainstream devel­op­­ment processes, identify targets for academic follow-up research, involve NARS and contribute direct­ly to negotiated solutions for important tradeoffs. It involves partners across SE Asia, with training courses and support of local application of a series of appraisal tools ICRAF developed including the Rapid Hydrological Appraisal method.



Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:

Implement Rapid Hydrological Appraisals based on local, public and modelers knowledge.
Develop and maintain a watershed model that allows analysis of consequences of land use change
Develop interfaces linking existing model with spatial data.
Contribute to capacity building for national partners in land use and watershed management
Qualifications and Skills Required:

Familiarity through university study and work experience with Integrated Natural Resource Management approaches including hydrology, agro-meteorology 3-4 years work experience
Experience with process-based models of the rainfall-soil- plant-atmosphere continuum
Experience in GIS and or Spatial Analysis
Good English communication skills: correspondence with project partners, newsletter contributions
Experience with and affinity for international and inter-cultural cooperation
Excellent capability to work under limited supervision

CI Sumatra Program Manager

Conservation International has developed the conservation "corridor" approach as a way of implementing conservation strategy. This approach will focus on designing biodiversity-friendly land-uses that maximizes the survival of the species found in a region while minimizing the economic costs and maximizing benefits to local people and the government. CI uses an extensive participatory approach to mobilize stakeholders around the conservation strategy to identify the options that are most desirable to stake holders and decision makers and therefore have the highest chance to success.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead the North Sumatra Corridor (NSC) program through coordinating projects/activities within the NSC corridor and for supervision of all NSC project staff and to work with key stakeholders to disseminate the results.
· Conduct oversight and administration of program activities relating to policy including budgeting, project development, staff management, financial and contracts administration, and ensuring adherence to CI-Indonesia's policies and procedures.
· Set up a mechanism to facilitate and to support effective NSC implementation that consists of several programs/projects as well as to provide their respective work plan, monitoring assistance, and reporting.
· Act as the central communication link among all CI-I staff both within NSC program and outside the program with the partners particularly work closely with both governmental and non-governmental organizations in the region to identify innovative solutions to current and emerging threats to critical habitat and species.
· Assist Terrestrial Program Director in developing and implementing programs of CI-Indonesia in Northern Sumatra Corridor, Siberut Island, and Aceh, particularly in preparation of implementing the NSC strategy.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
· At least a Master Degree on Biology or Ecology or Natural Resources Management or related science with a minimum 5 years experience, particularly of research and/or development projects in the filed.
· Experience in managing support from International and National Donor agencies, foundations and private sectors.
· Has advocacy skills and strong network with partners in Medan especially with Forestry people
· Written and spoken English and the ability to communicate often complex and sensitive issues to a wide audience
· Report writing skills and experience working with other donor agencies
· Proven record of success as part of interdisciplinary project teams
· Computer literate

PhD Student at Michigan Technological University

We are announcing an opportunity for two Ph.D. students to join anexciting collaboration between Michigan Technological University and theU.S. Forest Service, Northern Research Station. The students will studyresponses of roots and mycorrhizae to soil warming predicted to occur inthe Northeastern and North Central US during the next century. Multiplenew and ongoing field experiments ranging from 0 to 17 years of warming,located in a variety of regions and ecosystem types will be utilized inthe study.Position 1. Ph.D. research will focus on the acclimation or adaptationofroot systems to soil warming and the drier conditions that may co-occur.Potential topics for Ph.D. research include, but are not limited to, Callocation to root respiration and biomass production, nutrient uptakeandutilization, stand-level C and nutrient budgets, and modeling primaryproductivity and forest biogeochemical cycles.Position 2. Ph.D. research will focus on the effect of soil warming oncomposition, structure and function of mycorrhizal fungal communities.Potential research topics include the response of arbuscular andectomycorrhizal fungal biomass and community composition to warmerand/orwarmer and drier conditions, and the impacts these changes have onecosystem functions such as soil respiration, C allocation, abovegroundNPP, and soil C storage.Both students will have considerable flexibility in designing a researchprogram that investigates areas of personal interest, within the overallframework of the long-term project.
