Marie Curie Individual Fellowships at Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei
Short paid visiting positions offered for highly qualified candidates interested to apply
for a Marie Curie Fellowship.

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), an Italian leading research centre devoted to the
study of sustainable development and global governance, welcomes Marie Curie Individual
Fellowship applications in the field of economics and the environment.

In particular FEEM is seeking 2-3 Marie Curie Fellow candidates to pursue research in the
areas of disaster risk reduction, natural hazards’ economic and social impact assessment, and
vulnerability/resilience to natural disasters and climate change.
Applicants should have:
- a PhD degree in environmental or natural resource economics, environmental
management or research experience of more than 4 years in relevant areas of
environmental or ecological economics,
- strong analytical and diagnostic skills, and ability to conduct research independently,
- publication record proportional to their research experience,
- previous experience from international research projects would be a strong asset.
Marie Curie opportunities vary according to the country of residence:
- researchers from a Member State or Associated Country may opt for an Intra-European
Fellowship for Career Development (IEF)
- researchers from third countries may opt for an International Incoming Fellowship (IIF).
Female researchers and candidates from International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC)
are particularly encouraged to apply.
Promising candidates will be actively helped and assisted in developing project proposals for
the Marie Curie Individual Fellowships within the EC FP7 People Program.
Selected candidates will be offered paid short visiting positions at the FEEM office in
Venice for June-July 2010. During this period, the candidates will prepare/submit the Marie
Curie Proposals under the supervision of the FEEM senior researchers.
The successful Marie Curie fellows will be associated within the cluster of EC research projects
dealing with climate adaptation, natural hazard management and vulnerability assessment.
FEEM will offer a truly international and multi-disciplinary workplace. The strong ties with a
world-wide network of research institutions engaged in environmental research will allow a
continuous fruitful exchange of experience.

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy seeks candidates for a
Post-doctoral position
in the research area "The Environment and Natural Resources"
Applicants interested in the activities of the research area (see our homepage) should have (or close to
completion) a Ph.D. degree in economics or a related field. Candidates should be fluent in English, have
an outstanding academic record and show the potential for excellence in research.
We expect the candidate to have a strong quantitative background and interest in applied modelling.

The
position’s primary focus will be on the application of computable general equilibrium (CGE) models to
issues related to climate policy and climate change. Thus, knowledge of CGE modelling - though not
required - is of advantage. In addition, there will be room to follow individual research interests within the
foci of the research area.
Being internationally renowned in research and policy consulting, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy
provides excellent support to potential candidates who are interested in developing their career in
research and teaching.
The position is initially for two years but may subsequently be extended. Salary is determined according to
the salary scheme of the German public sector (max EG14 TV-L, depending on the candidate’s
qualification). Part-time employment is possible.

The Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change (CMCC) welcomes Marie Curie Fellowship applications in its fields of research.

CMCC is a new established Italian non profit research institution supported by the Ministry for the Environment and Territory, the Ministry for Education, University and Research and the Ministry for Economy. CMCC is operated by a Research Consortium consisting of different Italian public and private research Institutions and led by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV).

PhD Student at Michigan Technological University

We are announcing an opportunity for two Ph.D. students to join anexciting collaboration between Michigan Technological University and theU.S. Forest Service, Northern Research Station. The students will studyresponses of roots and mycorrhizae to soil warming predicted to occur inthe Northeastern and North Central US during the next century. Multiplenew and ongoing field experiments ranging from 0 to 17 years of warming,located in a variety of regions and ecosystem types will be utilized inthe study.Position 1. Ph.D. research will focus on the acclimation or adaptationofroot systems to soil warming and the drier conditions that may co-occur.Potential topics for Ph.D. research include, but are not limited to, Callocation to root respiration and biomass production, nutrient uptakeandutilization, stand-level C and nutrient budgets, and modeling primaryproductivity and forest biogeochemical cycles.Position 2. Ph.D. research will focus on the effect of soil warming oncomposition, structure and function of mycorrhizal fungal communities.Potential research topics include the response of arbuscular andectomycorrhizal fungal biomass and community composition to warmerand/orwarmer and drier conditions, and the impacts these changes have onecosystem functions such as soil respiration, C allocation, abovegroundNPP, and soil C storage.Both students will have considerable flexibility in designing a researchprogram that investigates areas of personal interest, within the overallframework of the long-term project. A background in ecology, soilscience, mycology or a related field is required, as is an interest inthelinkages between community-, physiological- and ecosystem ecology.Experience with any of the following will be an asset, but is notrequired: root or mycorrhizal research; molecular identificationmethods;statistical analysis of community structure; physiological ecology ofplants and fungi; measurements of ecosystem nutrient and carbon poolsandfluxes. Perkumpulan Prakarsa adalah organisasi non pemerintah yang bergerakdalam bidang produksi pengetahuan dan penguatan kapasitas masyarakatsipil. Sejak tahun 2004, Perkumpulan Prakarsa secara berlanjutmelaksanakan berbagai kajian, riset dan proses pembelajaran bersama(mutual learning process) dalam tema peran negara, peran masyarakatsipil, desentralisasi dan globalisasi melalui kerja sama dengan berbagaikelompok ORNOP, perguruan tinggi, lembaga penelitian, agensi pemerintahdan lembaga donor.

Sebagai bagian dari upaya penguatan kapasitas masyarakat sipil melaluiproduksi pengetahuan, Perkumpulan Prakarsa membuka kesempatan bagimaksimal tiga orang penggiat Organisasi Masyarakat Sipil untuk melakukanpenelitian bersama (small scale joint research) melalui skema fellowshipjangka pendek.

Dalam skema ini, setiap fellow akan mengelola dana hibahsenilai maksimal Rp. 15.000.000,00 (Lima-Belas-Juta-Rupiah) dalam waktutiga bulan bagi pelaksanaan aktivitas kajian yang diajukan kepada dandisetujui oleh Perkumpulan Prakarsa.
