Kesempatan Penelitian Bagi Mahasiswa
Burung Indonesia adalah organisasi nirlaba yang telah bergiat sejak 15 Juli 2002, bertujuan melestarikan seluruh jenis burung dan habitatnya di Indonesia, serta bekerjasama dengan masyarakat untuk mencapai pembangunan yang lestari.
Latar Belakang
Kawasan hutan Mbeliling terletak di bagian barat pulau Flores merupakan salah satu ekosistem hutan penting yang masih tersisa di pulau ini. Dua tipe habitat utama yang terdapat di dalam kawasan ini yaitu hutan tropika basah semi-awet hijau dan hutan tropika basah luruh-daun, telah mendapatkan status tertinggi bagi konservasi keanekaragaman hayati di wilayah tropika (WCMC 1997). Kawasan ini merupakan habitat bagi tiga dari empat burung endemik Flores yaitu Kehicap Flores (Monarcha sacerdotum), Serindit Flores (Loriculus flosculus), dan Gagak Flores (Corvus florensis). Sebanyak 17 jenis burung sebaran terbatas juga menghuni kawasan hutan (Trainor dan Lesmana 2000).
Kawasan hutan ini juga berfungsi sebagai daerah resapan air bagi daerah Manggarai Barat. Masyarakat di sekitar hutan Mbeliling juga menggantungkan hidupnya pada kawasan ini untuk mengairi lahan pertanian serta menjamin tersedianya air bersih. Selain itu masyarakat juga memanfaatkan tumbuhan di kawasan ini sebagai bahan makanan, bahan bangunan, serta obat-obatan tradisional. Mengumpulkan hasil hutan bukan kayu adalah kegiatan ekonomi yang penting bagi masyarakat sekitar kawasan Mbeliling.
Burung Indonesia bekerjasama dengan Dansk Ornitologisk Forening (DOF) dan didukung oleh DANIDA, tengah melaksanakan sebuah program di kawasan Mbeliling yang bertujuan untuk membangun pengelolaan hutan secara partisipatif yang dapat meningkatkan sumber kehidupan yang berkelanjutan bagi masyarakat.
Salah satu kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah membangun sebuah sistem Pemantauan Lingkungan secara Sederhana (PLS; Low Key Monitoring), dengan tujuan untuk merancang sebuah sistem pemantauan yang dapat dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat setempat dan pemerintah terkait, yang akan dapat memantau perubahan yang terjadi di kawasan hutan sekitar. Hasil pemantauan keanekaragaman hayati ini juga menjadi masukan bagi praktek pengelolaan kawasan Mbeliling.
Sehubungan dengan dimulainya pengembangan sistem PLS ini, Burung Indonesia memberi kesempatan bagi mahasiswa Indonesia baik untuk jenjang strata sarjana maupun pasca sarjana untuk melakukan penelitian mengenai aspek-aspek tertentu dalam sistem PLS. Apabila dimungkinkan akan dilakukan kolaborasi antara mahasiswa Indonesia dan Denmark, oleh karena itu diperlukan kemauan kerjasama antara kedua pihak mahasiswa.
Tujuan utama
Melakukan studi lapangan yang mendukung dan meningkatkan kegunaan sistem PLS bagi kawasan Mbeliling, yang nantinya akan menghasilkan pengaruh positif terhadap kualitas hutan dan juga kualitas hidup masyarakat sekitar hutan Mbeliling.
Penelitian ini dapat menelaah bagaimanakah desain teknis terbaik sistem pemantauan dalam hal aspek yang dapat memberikan hasil maksimal dan efektif dari sisi pendanaan: apa yg harus dipantau, kapan dan bagaimana?. Penelitian ini juga dapat mencoba untuk menjawab pertanyaan seperti: Bagaimanakah kita dapat memastikan komitmen total untuk melaksanakan pemantauan dari kedua pihak yaitu masyarakat lokal serta pemerintah terkait (Dinas Kehutanan)?, ataupun pertanyaan: Apakah manfaat yang diterima masyarakat lokal dari sistem pemantauan ini?. Seluruh proposal yang masuk diharapkan memiliki keterkaitan dengan tujuan utama.
Tugas peneliti
Melakukan studi, termasuk kajian lapangan, di dalam dan sekitar kawasan hutan Mbeliling dengan pengawasan terbatas, tetapi tetap berkorespondensi dengan staff Burung Indonesia dan DOF.
Merancang aspek logistik dan keuangan dengan staf Burung Indonesia di Bogor.
Menyusun sebuah catatan detil pengeluaran biaya yang didukung oleh bukti-bukti, dan menyampaikan dokumen pengeluaran biaya akhir kepada staf Burung Indonesia.
Menyusun laporan akhir studi termasuk presentasi metodologi, data empiris yang didapatkan di lokasi kajian, analisis data, kesimpulan dan/atau rekomendasi yang keduanya terkait dengan sistem PLS dan tujuan utama diatas.
Waktu penelitian
Akan ditentukan setelah diskusi antara mahasiswa terpilih dengan tim Burung Indonesia proyek Mbeliling.

Conservation International Indonesia is a non-profit organization with head office in Crystal City, Arlington USA and whose mission is to conserve the Earth’s living heritage, our global biodiversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature.
The Finance Officer primarily is accountable for maintaining the financial, accounting and administrative service, and to ensure effective support to project. The incumbent is also responsible for preapring financial statement and maintaining cash reins. She/he will be working under the supervision of Marine Finance Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
In charge of daily financial operation including payment to vendors, daily cash management, handling petty cash, and other bank transaction.
Reviewing all payment requests to ensure CI regulation compliance is followed prior to disbursement.
Preparing and producing periodic financial reports including preparation of journal entries, daily input of all financial transactions into CI’s accounting system, perform various reconciliations, including statements, invoices, vouchers ad general ledger accounts.
Maintaining files of payment voucher, general journal vouchers, financial reports, bank statement and reconciliations and other financial documents.
Keeping track of CI Bali office inventory, recording them in inventory log book, update the record every time a change is occurred (new purchase, transfer and disposal) and performing a period physical check.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
The successful candidate is expected to have the following attributes:
University or college degree in Finance or Accounting with at least 3 years experience
Knowledge of computerized accounting system is preferred
Knowledge and experience in filling data and information
Able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Experience in cash management and preparing financial report
Ability to work as part of a team or individually
Competency in Microsoft Office software;
Good command of English

Conservation International Indonesia is a non-profit organization with head office in Crystal City, Arlington USA and whose mission is to conserve the Earth’s living heritage, our global biodiversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature.
The Finance Officer primarily is accountable for maintaining the financial, accounting and administrative service, and to ensure effective support to project. The incumbent is also responsible for preapring financial statement and maintaining cash reins. She/he will be working under the supervision of Marine Finance Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
In charge of daily financial operation including payment to vendors, daily cash management, handling petty cash, and other bank transaction.
Reviewing all payment requests to ensure CI regulation compliance is followed prior to disbursement.
Preparing and producing periodic financial reports including preparation of journal entries, daily input of all financial transactions into CI’s accounting system, perform various reconciliations, including statements, invoices, vouchers ad general ledger accounts.
Maintaining files of payment voucher, general journal vouchers, financial reports, bank statement and reconciliations and other financial documents.
Keeping track of CI Bali office inventory, recording them in inventory log book, update the record every time a change is occurred (new purchase, transfer and disposal) and performing a period physical check.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
The successful candidate is expected to have the following attributes:
University or college degree in Finance or Accounting with at least 3 years experience
Knowledge of computerized accounting system is preferred
Knowledge and experience in filling data and information
Able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Experience in cash management and preparing financial report
Ability to work as part of a team or individually
Competency in Microsoft Office software;
Good command of English

Postgraduate Studentships 2009: Miriam Rothschild Studentships in Conservation Biology
The Arcadia Fund has kindly provided funding for research studentships in Conservation Biology, to be based in the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, UK. We expect to fund two students from less developed
countries to start in autumn 2009, with a third student to start a year later. We will also fund one EU student to start in either 2009 or 2010.
